NEW APPLICANTS:

 

  1. Portal Application – a complete, original application signed by the applicant (print and submit all pages)
  2. Please include an email address on the front page of your application. Note: This will be used to contact you for appointment scheduling to expedite the process.
  3. Payment – a check or money order payable to the “Town of Plainville”
  4. Proof of Residency – Documents may not  be more than 2 months old, with your name and address
    Acceptable Documents: 
  • Mortgage statement
  • Lease Agreement
  • Utility bill (gas, electric, water, cable)
  • Property tax 
  • Excise tax 
  • Voter registration

                 Documents that are NOT Acceptable:

  • Credit card statements
  • Medical bills
  • Junk mail
  • Paystubs
  • Vehicle registration
  1. Safety Course Certificate – a copy of your MA basic firearms safety course certificate
  1. Driver’s License – a copy of your MA driver’s license
     Applicants born outside of the United States will also need to submit a proof of citizenship document (U.S. passport, naturalization papers, etc.)

 

RENEWAL APPLICANTS:

  1. Portal Application – a complete, original application signed by the applicant (print, sign, and submit all pages filled out completely)
    1. If you do not have internet access the local library provides necessary computer resources if needed. 
    2. Paper applications submitted without using the MIRCS Firearms Licensing Portal will be accepted until July 1, 2025. After July 1, 2025, ALL applications should be completed through the portal (print and submit all 4 pages filled out completely).  
  1. Payment – a check or money order payable to the “Town of Plainville” 
    Exemptions: There is no fee for renewal applicants 70 years old and above at the time of submission.

 

  1. Proof of Residency – an acceptable document, not more than 2 months old.

        Acceptable documents:

  2. Additional paper submission - If you answered "YES" to any of the questions 2-15, submit a separate document with the following information:
    1. Details about the question;
    2. Dates about the question;
    3. Circumstances about the question;
    4.  Location Country, State, county, city, or town pertaining to the question.

Once the application has been completed through the MIRCS Firearms Licensing Portal the applicant is required to print & sign the application and submit the completed application, fee for license, and hunter safety course certificate mail or drop off the application packet in a sealed envelope  

  • A receipt acknowledging that an application has been received will be mailed to the applicant. 
  • Applicants will be contacted via email (if provided) or phone if additional documents are required to process the application.
  • Applicants will be contacted via email and scheduled for an appointment to process fingerprints and conduct an interview. 

 

Upon completion of the application process, the applicant will be notified of the approved application and be required to pick up the permit in person.

Firearms Safety Training Program

Applicants must complete a Massachusetts Basic Certification Firearms Training Course. The Plainville Police Department does not endorse or recommend any specific company or vendor.
