Summer Recreation Program 2023
We are Back!! We are happy to announce that the Plainville Park Department Summer Rec Program will be offered again this summer 2023. The guidelines/orders have been directly influenced by the state of Massachusetts as well as the Town of Plainville Board of Health to ensure we are following all regulations properly. Right now, we are able to run a full summer rec program for the children as we have done in the past. Also, please be mindful that things change daily, so everything is subject to change at any time if directed by the state of MA or Plainville Board of Health Department.
The Plainville Park and Rec Summer Recreation Program is open to children entering 1st grade through 8th grade in September of 2023. Our summer program runs Mondays through Fridays at the Plainville Town Park (142 South Street) for the duration of 8 weeks. This year we will be offering full days, or half days as well as full weeks or Daily (single day) registrations. Our Full Day summer program runs Mondays through Fridays from 8:30AM to 4PM at the Plainville Town Park.
Each week will feature a field trip (see weekly field trip locations on this page) as well as daily activities including sports, field games, court games, playground, swimming in the town pool, board games, arts and crafts, table games, walk to the Library Movie, story time, and more!
2023 Dates
The Summer Recreation Program will begin the week of Monday June 26th and run for eight (8) weekly sessions ending on Friday, August 18th. On rainy days, the program will be held at the Wood School (Plainville Elementary School). Space is limited and filled on a first-come basis! Sign up early!
Important: Due to the school's summer hours (8:30 am to 3:30 pm), we canNOT offer before or after extended care hours on rainy days when the program will be held at the Wood school (72 Messenger Street)! We will do our best to inform those families as soon as possible, but the weather is out of our control! Families will be notified by 7AM the morning of those days, in case of inclement weather. We appreciate your understanding in this situation.
Please Note: The school hours are 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, so our program will end 30 minutes earlier! We cannot control these hours and appreciate your cooperation with the pick-up time. No extended care hours on inclement weather days!

2023 Rates
The registration fee for 1 child for a full one-week session (Monday through Friday) is $220. Weekly cookouts, Field Trips, and special events, along with daily pool time are included in the registration fee NO additional charges for Field Trips or pool time! A non-refundable deposit of $50 per week per child is due at registration to hold their spot.
Discounted rates for families signing up with three or more children. Third child in a family is Free (1st through 8th grade)!
Please contact the Park Department with any financial concerns! Limited scholarships available on first-come basis. Payment plans are also an option and available for those in need.
Cancelation Policy
Cancelation of any week(s) must be submitted by a one-week minimum notice in advance. Any late cancellation will be subject to full payment for the week(s) missed. Due to the extremely limited capacity, you cannot hold a spot for your child. You must commit to the week(s) you register for and a non-refundable deposit of $50 per week per child is required to finalize registration.
Daily Sign-Ups / Extended Care
Daily Sign-Ups
Daily signups will be allowed at a fee of $70 per full day or $40 per half day. Half-day hours are either: Morning 8:30AM to 12:30PM or afternoon (12PM) noon to 4PM. Any child attending a half day does not attend any scheduled field trips! Please note on the daily sign-ups in your registration form. If not specified for daily sign-ups, then the child will be registered for a full day and full-week program.
Before & After Care
Due to the high volume of requests, the Plainville Park Department has decided to offer before and after care this summer for families who need extended hours in the morning and/or afternoon.
- Before Care: 7:30AM to 8:30AM.
- After Care: 4PM to 6PM.
Flat rate of $20 for Before Care and Flat rate of $25 for After Care, per day per child! Any family looking to take advantage of these extended hours must register for extended care for staffing purposes! One week minimum notice is required for any extended care hours!

Inclement Weather Policy
On any day there will be inclement weather (heavy rain, extended rain, thunderstorms, etc.) the Summer Recreation Program will be held at the Wood School (72 Messenger Street, Plainville MA 02762). Drop-Off/Pick-Up will take place at the side entrance toward the back of the school. Do not go through the front or side doors by the office.
The Plainville Park Department will notify all Families by 8AM the morning of those days, if we will be holding our program at the Wood School. In the case of unexpected inclement weather (thunderstorms), after drop-off we will bus the children to the Wood School if needed and notify all parents that pick-up will be at the Wood School. If we get passing showers, we will stay under the pavilion at the Town Park.

Late Sign-Ups Policy
One week minimum notice is required for any registration, weekly or daily. Registration(s) must be received by the Wednesday prior to the week you are signing up your child for! (No Exceptions.) All programs are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Plainville Park Department will do our best to fulfill any request that is received within a timely manner. Registrations received outside of these time restraints are subject to dismissal and not accepting those registrations due to staffing preparation, safety concerns, etc. Please plan ahead and sign-up/register your child(ren) as soon as possible to avoid missing out!
COVID-19 Requirements / Info
Please Note: Due to the contagious nature of the COVID-19 virus, the Summer Recreation Program is subject to shut-down at any time if stated by the Plainville Board of Health Department or the state of MA!

Due to the different fees and schedules for each family, we are unable to offer online payments for the Summer Recreation Program. Payments can also be dropped off at Plainville Town Hall (190 South Street, Plainville, MA 02762) or given to the Park Director (John Teiner).
A non-refundable deposit of $50 per week/per child is due at registration! Registration is not complete until the deposit is received!
Payment Due Dates
Full payment will be due by the Monday (1st day) for any week your child is registered for. The balance for weeks 1 through 4 is due by Monday July 17th. The balance for weeks 5 through 8 is due by Monday August 14th.

Any registration received prior to the opening date/time will not be valid!

Counselor in Training (CIT) Program
The CIT program is intended for boys and girls entering 9th and 10th grade in September of 2023. The CIT program is best suited for students who are interested in working with children in the future, gain leadership experience and desire to work alongside Recreation Staff.
Returning CITs must register with the Plainville Park Department and list their top 3 week preferences. Each CIT will receive 4 to 5 weeks max for the Summer Rec Program. Returning CITs will have first priority on picking their scheduled weeks.
New CIT Candidates need to fill out a town application and will be interviewed (in-person interviews are back). Applications will be accepted starting May 4th until spots are full. Selections are made based on individual qualifications, as well as the needs of our program. Please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee every week that is requested.
Cost per week for the CIT program is $100 per child.
