Hydrant Flushing Program
Plainville Water & Sewer Operations Scheduled to Conduct Hydrant Flushing
The Town-wide annual unidirectional water main flushing program is scheduled to begin throughout Plainville beginning on Tuesday April 16, 2024.
Plainville Water & Sewer Operations will be conducting its annual unidirectional water main flushing program in different parts of the Town over the next six (6) weeks. Water main flushing will begin on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 and is anticipated to proceed throughout May 2024, Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 7:00AM to 3:00PM. The purpose of the water main flushing is to improve drinking water quality for residents and businesses in the Town.
The flushing of hydrants is a critical process that removes sediment buildup in the pipes and helps to optimize our water quality. It also helps us conduct inspections of the hydrants for fire protection. The flushing may result in temporary discoloration of the water, caused by small particles dislodged during the flushing as well as possible reduction in pressure. We recommend restricting water usage during the flushing period. The Public Works Department provides notice to residents as a courtesy, so you are informed should you notice any change in pressure or "discolored" water and understand that it is temporary.
We may need to flush some isolated areas in off-hours due to the impacts flushing can create in high-demand and or low-pressure zones, but these are generally in the commercial and large multi-family residential zones in Town. We don't anticipate any issues with this round of water system flushing; however, should you have any problems at all, please get in touch with Water & Sewer Operations at 508-699-2071.
We appreciate your patience as we make every effort to deliver the highest quality water to our customers and ensure that the Town's fire hydrants are functioning properly as active components of fire protection.
