Plainville Recycling & Compost Center
Residents participating in the Municipal Trash and Recyclables collection program have access to the Recycling Center located at the Highway Garage to drop off "Special Waste".
The following items are considered "Special Waste" and may be brought to the recycling center. Some items require a fee. All fees are payable in orange "Special Waste" stickers. If an item is not listed, please see Unacceptable Items for other management options.

Recycling Center Annual Pass
Residents who wish to use the Recycling Center at the Highway Garage to drop off items will be required to register their vehicle(s) with the Municipal Refuse Collection Program and display an annual pass in the registered vehicle using the recycling center. Residents will still be required to pay the per-item fees.
Single-family homes that participate in the Municipal Refuse Collection Program will receive an annual pass for one vehicle at no additional costs.
Two-family homes will receive two vehicle passes at no charge.
Three-family homes will receive three vehicle passes at no charge.
If residents wish to register an additional vehicle per household, a fee of $5 per vehicle, per year, will be required.
Residents that choose to pay partial payments of 6 months will be issued a 6 month pass.
Vehicle Pass Only
If you do not participate in the Municipal Collection Program and would like to utilize the Recycling Center Drop Off area, you will need to purchase a "Recycling Center Annual Pass." The cost of the pass per vehicle is $25 for the period beginning July 1, through June 30.
Only vehicles registered to Plainville residents or property owners will be allowed to use the Recycling Center.
Only commercial vehicles that are registered to a non-business are allowed.
No business commercial vehicles will be allowed.
Per-item fees still apply.
Hours & Directions
Residents are reminded a current Recycling Center Pass is required for access.
The Recycling and Composting drop-off area is located at the Highway Garage at 29 West Bacon Street. The hours for drop off are:
- Mondays 8 am to 3 pm - year-round
- Saturdays 8 am to 3 pm - April to November
- Saturdays 8 am to 1 pm - December, January and March
- Closed February
The center is closed on listed Holidays and during severe winter weather.
Directions
From the light at the intersection of South Street and West Bacon Street: West on West Bacon Street, 1/4 mile from intersection on right, Shares driveway with Hillsinger Vision. It is the last and only building on the right.
Holiday & Weather Delays
The drop-off center will be closed on the following holidays:
- New Year's Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
Please note that the drop-off area will be open on Martin Luther King Day, Patriots Day, Columbus Day and Veterans Day if it falls on a Monday or Saturday. Weather delays cannot be previously announced.
Special Waste Stickers
Special Waste items are paid with orange $2.50 trash stickers. $5 for 2 orange stickers, $10 for 4 orange stickers, and $15 for 6 orange stickers. No cash or checks are accepted at the Recycling Center.

Stickers for bags and "Special Waste" are available from Town Hall, Board of Health office and the following Retail outlets in town:

- Mobil Mart - 11 Taunton Street (corner Route 152 and 106)
