The Cooney Avenue Bridge over the Ten Mile River will close until further notice repairs can be made. Based upon the information from a subsurface investigation, the Town, out of an abundance of caution, is issuing an immediate notice of the temporary closure of the Cooney Avenue Bridge to all traffic due to structural deficiencies. The Plainville Department of Public Works will be installing the necessary barriers today, Wednesday, June 14, 2023, to close the bridge.
A grant of $100,000 was received through the Department of Transportation’s Small Bridge Program in July of 2020 for the design of a new bridge. The Plainville Department of Public Works is currently working with BETA Group, Inc. to develop a plan for the replacement of the Cooney Avenue Bridge, as well as researching additional funding opportunities to assist with the replacement of the bridge.
